One of the curious things about working in a home with a history as rich as this one is how often we find ourselves thinking about the people who walked these halls before us. This is especially true when you consider its involvement with the Underground Railroad.
Who could imagine that such a beautiful home bore witness to such perilous times?
We often find ourselves looking out the windows and imagining what it must’ve felt like to wait hours on end for the flash of light that would signal safety to the family’s to whom this home was a haven. What was it like to take on such an important role during a time when doing what was right, was a crime to be paid with your life? We can only imagine the challenges they must have faced, both the families who suffered the worst of it and those who swore to protect them.
The more time you spend in The Mendenhall Blair House, the more you grow to cherish it.
It has been easy for us to understand the pull this home has had and continues to have on everyone who encounters it.
We enjoy hosting people in this home, but we are also very aware of how important it is to continue nurturing the values on which it was built and maintained.. We feel it’s important to honor the legacy the Mendenhalls’ risked their lives to forge and feel so blessed to have a community that supports us. Above all, we feel blessed to count on a team that is dedicated to this cause and moves us in every way to pay it forward.
Should you wish to share your experiences or bits of history with us, please do not hesitate to reach out. We love hearing your stories and the many ways this home has been a part of your lives!
