Welcome back!
June has been a quiet month following our Mother's Day Drive this past May.
We are currently dedicated to brainstorming and diligently organizing our upcoming projects and collaborations. Even so, we have a few updates for you all:
For those of you who didn't catch our newsletter last month, our foundation members attended a Community Garden Club Class in efforts to learn how to build our very own garden at The Mendenhall Blair House.
This month we took a good look at the space we had available at the house. We've had different ideas as to how to approach the garden layout, but ultimately decided that our first step should be testing the soil.
We started by choosing the spot where we wanted our first garden bed to go and brought our little helper to help us do a little digging. Once we had our soil sample, we boxed it up and mailed to the North Carolina Agronomic Division, which will tell us what crops are ideal and what our next steps should be.
Our goal with this garden is to bring the community together by creating a space where we may all participate in enhancing the house’s natural environment, with the purpose of it being open to other families to enjoy. This aligns with our vision that this house is as much the communities’ as it is ours.
Additionally, we are actively seeking animal shelters to partner with as part of our commitment to supporting all members of our community, including our beloved pet friends! While we continue our search for the ideal shelter to collaborate with, we have taken the initiative to collect supplies and essentials for donation to Guilford County Animal Shelter. A few of our foundation members have already completed this task and will be working diligently this upcoming month to find more ways help.
If you wish to participate in either of these initiatives, please reach out to us as we are always eager to hear from you!
We are excited to continue sharing our journey with you and are increasingly grateful for those of you who have pledged your support.
We'd like to give a special thanks to Rhiannon Goodwin, who led the "Walk This Way: Essential Steps to a Successful Garden" class and has been instrumental in our efforts to begin this project.
'Til next time,
